| | | With 1.70, we’ve made so many great changes to the game. As a result, there will be some free respecs given, so that you can tweak your character just the way you want it. Here’s how it’s going to go:
Realm Ability Respec:
- The first time you log in, whether that’s launch day or a year from now, you’ll find all your realm ability points stripped and back in your pool.
- Assign your points as you wish.
- Until 10:00 AM EDT on July 7, 2004, we will be selling special, temporary realm ability respec “stones” for ten silver pieces. You can buy as many of these special and temporary stones as you like, and experiment your heart out. But be warned! After one week, the special stones will disappear. So hold on to any normal respec stones – there will still be a market for them after the first week of New Frontiers is over.
- You can use the special stones at the existing Respec NPCs. The normal stones (Luminescent Exeregum Stones and Luminescent Abrogo Stones) will not be accepted while the temporary stones are in the game. Again, hold on to them! Once the first two weeks of New Frontiers, Experiment Weeks, is over and the temporary stones have vanished from the game, you’ll be able to use the normal stones again.
- If you log in after the Experiment Weeks are over, please be very careful with your automatic and free realm respec! Our customer service people will be completely unable to reset your realm skills or provide you with new respecs or stones, and you will have to either win a stone or purchase a stone from another player in order to respec your realm abilities. Go slowly – proofread twice, hit accept once, as the saying goes.
- Here’s what the 1.70 patch notes have to say about realm ability respecs:
"As part of New Frontiers, we are providing players with the ability to obtain a full realm ability respec at a very low cost (10 silver). We introduce this system for testing on Pendragon today. Players wishing to respec their realm abilities can visit the merchants set up specifically for this purpose and purchase special respec stones - Sophist's Realmstone. **These special stones will only be available for one week on the live servers, then they will disappear.** During the time these new stones are available, the Respec NPCs will temporarily not accept the old realm stones. Once the merchants are gone, the Respec NPCs will once again accept the old stones. These are the merchants that will be selling the new, temporary respec stones:
Albion - Brandonne Chauncy in Camelot
Midgard - Frumdall Helmer in Jordheim
Hibernia - Gwinna Galbrath in Tir na Nog
Please note that in order to use these stones, you must turn them in to the appropriate Respec NPC and then type '/respec realm' in front of your class trainer. The NPCs that accept these respec stones are listed below.
Albion - Paiton Hazlett in Camelot
Midgard - Haili in Jordheim
Hibernia - Bretta in Tir na Nog
Full Skill Respec:
- This free full respec is intended for players whose specialization templates are affected by all the changes we’ve made in New Frontiers. We haven’t set the bar terribly high – you need to have one realm point in order to receive the respec. Characters automatically receive a single point at level twenty, but you can get one at level fifteen by heading out to the lowest level battleground.
- When each character logs in for the first time after 1.70 is launched, all characters with at least one realm point will have one free, full skill respec available. You must still go to the trainer to have your old points stripped before you can re-train your skills, the same way it works with the Full Respecs given from the respec stones currently in the game.
- If you were hoarding other respecs, please accept our apology in advance, but the full freebie will overwrite any saved ones you were holding onto. Sorry, guys, but it was better to give all our realm defenders a freebie. We think that a full respec is more beneficial to those players than the single line respec they might have had. Our code does not allow you to have more than one full respec at a time, or to have both a full and a single at the same time.
- Attention autotrain classes: If you choose to use this full free respec, be aware that some of your points will be automatically assigned to the lines that your class autotrains. That is not a bug. Do not appeal the automatic assignment of autotrain points, because we cannot give them back. If you wish to "keep" any points you gained through the autotrain system, you must not respec out of the autotrained line. If you choose to respec, do not include the autotrain points when you plan your new template. For more information, see the Grab Bag: HERE.
- YOU MUST USE THIS RESPEC BEFORE YOU LEVEL AGAIN. If you are “this close” to your next level, you should use your respec before you so much as whack a single badger. If you lose this respec because you leveled by accident, it is LOST and we cannot replace it. We cannot replace it under any circumstances! If you want to use the respec, we strongly recommend that you take no chances and use it as soon as log in.
- If you make a mistake, we cannot help! Lag, typos, proofreading mistakes, we can’t help with any of it. You will not get the CSR to reset your character, so please, please, go slowly, keep your hands away from the keyboard, and get your cat to check your work.
- Here’s the most common mistake – reading the training window and approving your template based on that. Here’s an example (click to open a larger version):

On the left is what your costs are to train, and NOT, I repeat, NOT what you really have specced.
Be sure you’re looking at the correct window (defaulting on the right side of the screen, and the right half of the illustration) before you press yes. You cannot undo your choice without acquiring a new stone! Proceed with caution!
New Milestone Respec:
In addition to the level 20 and the level 40 single line respecs, we’ve added a level 5 version at your trainer to take care of that pesky point you accidentally put in the “other weapon.” As with all our respecs, you must use this before you level up to six, so keep an eye on that experience bar.
The time’s getting closer, so start planning your new templates!
