Here's Our Weekly Grab Bag

Got it right here:

Q: How often does the Night Terror mob spawn for The Gem Of Lost Memories, and is there a way to get Night Terror to spawn?

A: The (extremely rare) Night Terror has a chance to spawn each night cycle, and there is no way for a player to trigger the spawn. A brief refresher on how spawns work in DAOC:

Each monster/NPC is set with a percentage chance to spawn and a number of minutes. Most common monsters in outdoor areas meant for level one players have a 100%, one minute timer. This means that the server checks to see how many grass snakes there are, and if there are fewer snakes than the limit, it will definitely spawn a grass snake each minute until the limit is reached.

Higher level, special monsters might have a 10%, one hour timer (just an example). That means that every sixty minutes the server will roll the dice. The odds are that once out of every ten tries, the server will spawn the rare monster.

That does not mean the monster will spawn once an hour. It means that once an hour there’s a CHANCE the monster will spawn. And, as you math majors know, the odds do not change, no matter how many times the monster did or didn’t spawn before.

The Night Terror has a small chance to spawn, a long timer, and only spawns at night – so he is rare, indeed.

Q: My question is about the Hibernia/ Albion/ Midgard teleporters. Is it a mistake the you can teleport into Darkness Falls even if you do not have enough keeps to allow normal access to it, or is it what you meant to do?

A: On Pendragon, that’s just great. You didn’t say what server you were from – so if you’re talking about something on live, be sure to appeal it as a bug ;)

Q: Does (requirement Vs Humanoid) artifact bonuses include players? I just wanted to find out once and for all if it includes players and not just mobs.

A: Straight from the keyboard of the Item Mistress: ”Items that have a "vs Humanoid" requirement do not affect players, only mobs. However, artifacts do not have this requirement and do work versus all monsters and players.”

Q: I play in Europe on the GOA servers. At times I use the feedback form on the Camelot Herald to do just that, provide feedback to the developers of the game.

I notice, that when I submit the form it takes a considerable amount of time to process. Is this related to me being asked to provide my account name? Or, to put it in other words, is my message filtered out unless I provide a North American account name?

A: The long hang time is a technical issue with the database, and the same for everyone, I'm afraid. It affects Community News submission forms, Feedback Forms, and a few others besides. When you hit submit, you might “hang” for up to five minutes (though fortunately, the more typical hang time is a minute or so – just feels like forever). Please be patient as we try to address this.

While I can’t handle any customer service issues for our players around the world (your local provider has completely separate databases, and I can’t even look you up, let alone help you), I am more than happy to get game feedback intended for our designers, no matter where you live.

Q: I have a question about artifact experience. I thought I read that if you are in a group that the exp is the same as if you are solo. EX: A shadowblade friend and myself both have the Golden Scarab Vest. When we kill together it seems it takes more kills to earn xp for the both of us. These numbers are from killing the scarabs at loc 55k47k atum. Solo, three of them equals 1%, while grouped with my friend it was more on the end of 6 or so. So I am asking, was I wrong about the xp for artifacts being not split?

A: Sorry, I’m afraid that this rumor is wrong. (Got a lot of these this week, much to my confusion.) From the Mistress again: “Artifacts earn a percentage of the experience earned by the player. This does mean a player killing a particular mob solo will earn more experience than would be earned by killing that same mob while in a group.”

For my part, I would like to thank you, good sir. Your letter is a shining example of the PERFECT feedback letter. Had there been a bug at the root of your problem instead of a rumor, you gave me enough information so that our testing team could track down the problem and get it solved immediately. Bless your heart. You can send me questions until the cows come home.

Q: I was defending Nottmoor the other day, and noticed I was being hit in the Lord tower by siege. I thought that towers were supposed to protect from Siege attacks?

A: From the design team via Balance Boy: “You’re correct that towers (lord towers in keeps and regular towers) protect from GTAE, Siege, and Volley attacks. However, once that tower is destroyed (i.e. the hit points are zero and there are visible cracks all over it), the normal protection goes away. It’s become a common tactic for RvR leaders facing a very tough tower defense to break the tower and then soften up the defenders inside with GTAE, Siege, and Volley attacks before charging in.”

Q: I tried to send feedback about my class using the Team Lead feedback forms. When I tried to pick my class from the drop down menu, it wasn’t even listed! What’s up with THAT?

A: If the TL spot is vacant – meaning there’s no team lead in that position - there’s nowhere for the feedback to GO. Therefore, it’s not listed in the dropdown menu. We don’t want feedback to go to black hole.

So! The first thing you should do in that situation is apply for the position ;) Then resubmit feedback to the general form, where it will go to the Team Lead Coordinator, aka Miss Linda. We do care about that feedback, even if we don’t presently have a TL in the spot.

Q: I saw this note on the Pendragon 1.70at notes and I don't know what it means: - The level of the Belt of the Sun and the Belt of the Moon summoned weapons have been set to the correct level. Did you nerf my item?"

A: The Lady of the Patch has a clarification for all of you with this question! (We’ve been trying to indicate which way we changed things in the patch notes, and I apologize for letting this one slip by.) ”The level of the summoned weapons has been corrected in order to allow the procs for the weapons to start firing when the user is level 40 (rather than level 50). The damage and speed of the summoned weapons have not been changed.”

“In other words, if you delve the summoned weapon, it will list the proc’s spell description and say it’s usable at level 40 – but the proc itself is not at all different.”

Sanya here, with a gentle and loving reminder that level forty players will not do as much damage as a level fifty character might, due to different variance levels in damage formulas, specialization, caps, and relative level of your targets.

Q: (Insert question here about Keep Capture quests.)

A: We’ve been getting appeals about these quests, and considering how much new information you all had to absorb and we had to get out with the launch of New Frontiers, I’m not surprised this detail was overlooked. Sorry, guys. The “Medals of Valor” are not given out anymore, and so Keep Captures work differently in New Frontiers. From your friendly neighborhood Quest CSR: “The Medals of Valor are no longer used, and the experience is awarded when the keep lord dies. The reward is 25% of the player's level, and the quest may be done once per level. Additionally, the completed quest clears itself from the player's journal when his character gains a level.” There you have it, all.

Go to the Camelot Vault, scroll down to news posted on July 21, and check out the lovely new Catacombs wallpapers we created and gave to the Vault boys. There are four different types at all sorts of settings. Enjoy!

Missy, our new Community Coordinator, is settling in quickly. We’ve already gotten lots of Scroll requests! If you or a friend has reached level fifty or achieved LGM status since May 20, you are eligible to be listed.

We’re also really looking forward to posting your stories and server news. Don’t be shy!

Man, I can’t wait for the Roundtable in Vegas this September. Oh, don’t get me wrong, the one here in DC was great – but we’re renting out a big honking room at the MGM Grand in the middle of a legendary party town. After our last official fan gathering (two years too long ago), I hung out with a bunch of crazy players until the wee hours of the morning. For that matter, I think I was still awake at 4:30 in the morning after the last "unofficial" gathering. (Helloooooooooooooo, Toronto.) These are the nights in which legends are born. If you’ve never been to a gathering, get your flight booked NOW – your fellow players are more fun than cheese dip.

We’ll be having a few contests and giving away admission tickets to some lucky players. Keep ye olde Herald bookmarked!

Be good, and if you can’t be good, be careful – we’ll see you Monday.
