With every launch day of an expansion, there is a large patch and a heavy load on the game patchers, as eager players try to get our post-gold-master fixes and play. And, of course, since everyone is excited to play the new expansion, they want to be in the game as fast as possible. (Did you get to this link by way of our installation pop up box? Skip to the bottom of the story!)
Today, we have put up a file on Fileplanet (and we're working on other partnerships, to be posted on Monday) that will patch your CATACOMBS client to launch day state. We must emphasize that this file is for the Catacombs retail boxed expansion and will NOT work with other clients. Do not install this file over other clients.
(We realize that a number of our customers are on dial up, and we thus wanted to give them the weekend to pre-download this file, if they wish.)
So, here are the steps that a player will take to use this file.
Step 1. Pre-download this executable file. Do not install it, yet. If you try to install this file without Catacombs, it will fail.
Step 2. Install retail copy of Catacombs following the instructions included in the retail box.
Step 3. Execute this file, which will install many of the patch files to your Catacombs files.
Step 4. Patch and login as normal.
Beat the Catacombs rush, and head for this link: http://www.fileplanet.com/files/140000/148200.shtml. These are the files that will be on the Camelot patcher for all of our customers who will be playing Catacombs beginning Tuesday, December 7. If you download these files, it will make your opening day patch much smaller, so you can give yourself a big head start on the opening day of Catacombs!
Did you get this link from our Catacombs installation window? Great! Welcome to the Herald. This message is just for you:
You were told that you'd need a stand-alone download if this was your first time installing Catacombs. If you hit "accept," you saw a message that said "Please wait, downloading update file," and connected to Mythic's account with a company called Fileburst. Basically, we are renting a big bandwidth pipe from them for this large patch, so that players logging into the game won't have to fight with the patchers for bandwidth. Patching is much faster this way, and there will be less lag once you're in the game. Everything in the stand-alone is automatically installed, and you won't have to do anything. Welcome to Catacombs!
