Before I get to the questions tonight (I can't call this a grab bag, the most popular questions this week were beta, beta, BETA), I want to start with an announcement – starting now, we will reset the /charcopy feature after every patch, so that people can copy or recopy a character to Pendragon and really see the differences. So, if you’d like to try out 1.55A to see what the differences will be for your current character, you may do so. If you’d rather wait until we’re further along in the alphabet soup, you can do that too. So, decide whether you’re a now or later sort of person, and try each new patch with a fresh copy. ONE copy per patch.
Q: Did you pick me for the beta?
A: If you didn’t get an email, the answer is still maybe – about 200 emails bounced back to me, return to sender and undeliverable. Wait a week. If you don’t get a CD, the answer is no. I wish I could look each and every one of you up, but I can’t.
Q: You sent me a welcome email, but I don’t remember registering.
A: Some people have mean, evil friends who got into the beta and spoofed my name on a joke copy, and sent it around. Delve the header (in Outlook, right click the email, select options, and check it out) and see if the letter really is from me, or from your weaselly buddy.
Q: I signed up for beta with a fake email to avoid getting junk mail, are my chances ruined?
A: No – as I said above, wait a week and see if you get the CD. But please – Mythic will NEVER, EVER IN A MILLION YEARS sell our customer information to anyone. Your real email is safe with us. Please update your account information with your real email address. That’s the only was we have of getting in touch with you, and it’s the only way our customer service team has of reaching you if there’s a problem with your account.
Q: I got my open beta letter in the “junk” folder of my Hotmail account. Just thought some people would care to know they might have a letter from you in that folder.
A: I’ll bet they will =) Thanks for the tip. Although I’m mildly wounded at the thought of Mythic mail being junk. Sniff. ;)
Q: Is it true that you had to have a 50th level character to get picked for beta?
A: No.
Q: Is it true that you had to know someone at Mythic to be in the beta?
A: No. Good grief, half the team hasn't seen the sun in months, how would we even know three thousand people?
Q: Is it true you had to live in the US to be chosen for the beta?
A: No. Ask the guy in Hiroshima, Japan who is extremely excited today.
Q: Did you really choose the testers randomly?
A: Yes! It was completely random! There was no pattern, no reasoning, just great big blocks of names cut and pasted from the gigantic database, after I deleted all the duplicate entries and obvious buffbots, which I did while taking care to NOT delete spouses, roommates, family members, or any other household of players!
Q: I got my CD, but it says my account isn’t active! ARGH! What gives?
A: Well, if you are an open beta tester (and you can tell because you did NOT get a copy of the NDA with your CD), your account is not active until Monday. Try again then. If you are not an open beta tester (and you can tell because you DID get a copy of the NDA, which incidentally, we’re still under), then please try all of your possible log in names/passwords before you contact us. Beta accounts were limited to one a customer, and I deleted your duplicate entries before the drawings were held. If you’ve really tried them all, send me an email.
Q: I never got instructions to get access to the beta board. Was this on purpose?
A: Beyond a certain number of people, we closed the board to new players. We are actively working on a solution for the rest of the testers. For now, if you find a problem, please report it to sibugs@mythicentertainment.com.
I hope to be posting later this weekend with a link to a promo movie about Shrouded Isles. I’m about to bust out with excitement over it. If you know Aladora, you know why.
See you all soon =)
