Realm Abilities

[View Realm Abilites]

Realm Abilities are special skills that can be purchased through the use of Realm Rank Points. These points are gained as you climb your way through the Realm Rank ladder. With each increasing Realm Rank Level, you gain one point. These points can be either saved up or spent to purchase powerful and useful abilities.

The abilities available to you depend on what class you play. There are also unique realm abilities, which are only available to a single class.

Realm Point Costs are standardized. The Realm Abilities fall into one of two categories: RAs with five levels and RAs with three levels.

Every class is granted a free `Class Specific' RA at Realm Rank 5. Most of these are on a ten or fifteen minute timer, based on power.

The RA system has a scaling return for the purchase of higher tier RAs. Purchasing level one of an RA will provide a better return on investment than purchasing level two, but the scaling is designed to encourage players to spec higher in specific RAs, allowing for more diversity in RA templates.

All higher level RAs have a prerequisite. You must have the lower level ability before you may acquire the next level. Also, some realm abilities are limited to characters who have reached the minimum level of 40. If the character is below level 40, the realm ability will not be shown in the class trainer's list. The abilities that have this requirement are listed below:

  • Vehement Renewal
  • Ameliorating Melodies
  • Anger of the Gods
  • Wrath of Champions
  • Volcanic Pillar
  • Decimation Trap
  • Negative Maelstrom
  • Thornweed Field
  • Ichor of the Deep
  • Juggernaut
  • Toughness
  • Mastery of Focus
  • Divine Intervention

Realm Rank Reference Table

Realm Ranks have an addition automated benefit. As you can see from the chart below, starting with Rank 2 a player is given a plus bonus to all skills. With each rank earned, the bonus increases.

Example of a Realm Ability and Scaling

Let's look at one RA that every class may choose and how to purchase it:

Purge. Purge has three levels, costing 5, 10, and 15 points respectively. Purge removes all negative effects but leaves any applicable immunity timers in place.

Level 1 purge is on a 15 minute timer, but has a 5 second delay and costs 5 realm points. Level 2 is on the same timer, but has no delay. It costs 10 more realm points for a total of 15 points spent. Level 3 is on a 5 minute timer and has no delay. It costs 15 more realm points for a total of 30 points spent. The levels must be purchased sequentially.

Purge I has a five second delay between when Purge is selected and when it actually removes the negative effect. This means that Purge I will not be particularly useful versus combat effects such as stun, but will still be a useful defense against long mesmerize effects. Level I Purge is on a fifteen minute reuse timer.

The net result: Purge I costs five points, is usable every fifteen minutes, and has the drawback of the five second "wind up" time before going off.

Purge II is the same as Purge I with the five second delay removed. It also has the fifteen minutes reuse timer.

The net result: Purge II costs ten points, has a fifteen minute timer, no delay, and a prerequisite of Purge I. You must purchase Purge I before you can purchase Purge II.

Purge III is the same as Purge II, except the reuse timer is a short and sweet five minutes. Sounds amazing! Purge every five minutes? The designed "trade off" is that a character must essentially commit to having this ability and few others - thirty points is almost a third of all the realm ability points a character can ever earn.

The net result: Purge III costs fifteen points, has a five minute timer, no delay, and a prerequisite of Purge II.

How To Purchase a Realm Ability

Once you have acquired even one Realm Ability Point, as shown in the table above, you may begin to purchase some first level abilities. In order to do this, you will need to visit your trainer. Click on the trainer and the training interface screen will come up.

Here is an example of a young runemaster visiting a trainer, and the training interface screen. The Class Specializations are in the top half of the training window. The bottom half of the window shows the Realm Skills available and the cost. In our example the player has 1 point to spend. Augmented Acuity has been clicked on (shown by the highlighting of the words). To purchase Augmented Acuity the player needs to click on the Train button.
